Fall 2025 Application is Open for Bluestone Communications!
Bluestone Communications is JMU’s student-run public relations firm. Applications for the Fall 2025 semester are now open and must be received by
11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 14. For the Fall 2025 semester, rising juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply to work with real clients in the Harrisonburg area, conducting work such as primary research, visual branding, social media counseling, and strategic public relations planning. Some very select sophomore-level students may also be accepted.
We are looking for skills across majors, including graphic design, media production, writing and editing, storytelling, and more.
Class meetings will be on Wednesdays from 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm on the first floor of the
Ice House building in downtown Harrisonburg.

For SCOM students:
If you have not yet taken a PR context classes (SCOM 363, SCOM 365, SCOM 369, or SCOM 460), you will be admitted in an entry-level position and enroll in SCOM 369, which will count as your context course requirement. If you are a returning student or have already taken a PR context class, but have not completed the other prerequisites for the capstone class (e.g., SCOM 362 and an advanced research methods class), you will enroll in SCOM 318, which will count as a SCOM elective. If you have completed all of the prerequisites for the capstone class
and have senior standing, you will enroll in SCOM 462 (Student-run PR firm), which will fulfill your capstone requirement.
For SMAD/ WRTC / other major credit hours:
If it is your first semester with Bluestone Communications, you will be admitted as an entry-level employee and enroll in SCOM 369. If you are a returning student, you will complete credit hours in SCOM SCOM 318 (Bluestone Communications). SMAD students will be able to use SCOM class credits to fulfill their 78-credit-hour requirement outside of the major. For WRTC students and other majors, SCOM class credits will count toward your general elective course credits for graduation (120 hours).
